Editorial for Two Women and a Truck

I love shooting editorial work. I especially love to shoot editorial that I'm crazy passionate about. In this case: flowers and a local creative business owned by two amazing women. Elizabeth and Jenni are the creative force behind Two Women and a Truck, a local floral studio in Denver that delivers arrangements to businesses and residences around town on a daily basis. Their signature trademark is the blue truck! A little side story - before I knew Jenni and Elizabeth, I knew their business. They would park the blue truck in front of my sons' preschool and sell pumpkins and bouquets out of the back in the fall. I remember thinking, what a fabulous business!

A Lifestyle Family Session in Wash Park

First of all, can I start by saying this has been the most dreamy fall I've yet to experience. It has been warm, the color has been rich, and the light is pure gold. The nights have been cool - not quite cold. As a photographer, mainly called upon during the autumn months for family portrait shoots, this has been a dream year.

And then add these amazing families that I get to spend time with, capturing a glimpse of life - memories to hold on to forever. I love this crew! They are dear friends and simply wonderful people. And there is a new babe on the way! :) Wash Park is always splendid, but hanging there with these guys made for a beautiful day.

Family Portrait Sessions | Summer Special

Summer is here in all of her glory. Warm mornings, cold fruit, shade, hot nights, sprinklers, backyard and porch shenanigans, sundresses, barefeet, flowers in bloom, golden light. Summer is my most favorite time of the year to photograph families. There is a looseness - a softness and surrendering - during the warm months that suggests we drop the rigidity of the busy day and get on with taking a break and living simply.

An open field during the golden hour and a bowl of juicy fruit, a picnic blanket, sticks and floral crowns... On your porch or in your backyard, just the everyday, fresh flowers... A lingering walk at creek's edge, birdsong, clouds, hand holding... Any way you want to remember your summer memories, I would be honored to capture them for you. Suggested time of day for summer portrait sessions are in the morning or early evening.

Summer Special Sessions - July 29, 30, 31

  • Limited availability - only 2 sessions per day
  • 30 minute session  5 high resolution files  $250
  • 60 minute session  10 high resolution files  $450
  • Additional images and prints will be available for purchase
  • Custom framing options are available
  • Curated session at location of choice (within the Denver Metro area)

Hope to see you and yours soon!

Just for Kids

The days are getting longer and warmer. My two young sons are wanting to be outside from sun-up until sun-down, if not longer. I can hardly blame them. This time of year we are called outside, to live and breathe and play. Just the other night my youngest sun was in the creek - shoes on - fishing out trash with a long stick, balancing on large stones. His shoes have since been on our front porch, covered in crusted creek sand. They are a dried up mess. And I've yet to worry about cleaning them up. In fact, I see them and get the warm fuzzies. He played freely into the full moon light that night with his friends. I love to think about that. I did not have my camera on me that evening. If I had, I would've documented those moments. I have a collection of photographs of my sons playing freely in and along creek beds, snippets of their childhood that my husband and I love to look at and remember. And my sons love those pictures just as much. I keep an heirloom bowl in our living room full of prints and photo books, and I find them often pawing through that bowl.

Family portraits are a beautiful thing, and I love to take them. But Just for Kids sessions are not for dressing up and having to face the camera full on. There will not be one, just say cheese. They are not for staying still or wearing clothes you would never wear on any old day. Just for Kids sessions are for dirty knees and elbows, fairy wings, floral crowns, big, huge sticks, bare feet. They are for open space, your favorite park swing, in your backyard, playing next to the creek. They're for watermelon, or one single huge balloon on top of a hill during the golden hour. And the golden hour is good. These days the early evening hours are my favorite time to photograph my own sons. They come alive like fireflies. I could chase them for days.

So what will we do? We'll curate a location along with some of your child(re)'s favorite things for exploring and playing in the natural world. For up to an hour, I will document your kiddo simply just being a kid. These images are made with the intention to frame as works of fine art, and to live tangibly in your home. Each session includes your choice of one 11x14 or two 8x10 matte prints, ready for framing. Custom framing options and custom Colorado beetle pine photo boxes are available.

Just for Kids Session Details:

  • Up to one hour of photography at chosen location
  • 10 digital images
  • Either one 11x14 or two 8x10 fine art matte prints, ready for framing
  • All images in an online gallery for six months, with option to purchase additional prints
  • Just for Kids sessions are just for kids! No parents in the photos! :)
  • $275 (special pricing for June - August)

The Old Map Gallery | Denver

Earlier this summer I began a freelance collaboration with The Scout Guide | Denver. The Scout Guide is a national publication - "an inspired network that cross-promotes independent businesses and entrepreneurs in print and online". My work is to visit local businesses affiliated with TSG and bring them to life through editorial photography essays. A dream job with an extraordinary group of people to work with. My first feature - The Old Map Gallery - publishes via The Scout Guide | National any day now. I'm looking so forward to seeing how the editors put the piece together. I know it will be fantastic!

This work comes from a recent trip I took to New Mexico.

Inspired by a combination of welcoming my fortieth year, and returning to a place where I lived eighteen years ago to explore again. A landscape that deeply began shaping a part of me all those years ago, and a place (the high desert of the American Southwest) I feel pulled back to now for its enchanting blue sky with cottonball clouds, stoic sage, and the crisp, clean smell of piñon pine. An awakened sense that anything is possible.

The first two photographs were taken in Abiquiu. The last photograph was taken in Santa Fe. Everything in between was taken at Ghost Ranch.

I have chosen three photographs from this trip for the print shop in very limited edition.

A First Look at Four Friends Kitchen | Denver

I got to have a sneak peek at the brand new Four Friends Kitchen this past weekend.  It was a joy to photograph this restaurant, the front and back of the house, a few beautiful dishes, and all of the little details.  (the crispy huevos rancheros was delicious!)  I left feeling excited that this new locally owned gem is in my own neighborhood.  I'll be back again and again.
